history

The Community of the “Falla Plaça Doctor Collado”, located in the Square that carries that same name, it is placed in a privileged area of the centre of Valencia and surrounded by some of the most emblematic monuments of the city, such:

  • “La Llotja”, Gothic monument from the 15th Century, declared World Heritage.
  • Central Market.
  • “Redona” Square
  • Santa Catalina’s church
  • Cathedral and “Micalet”
  • Square of “Mare dels Desemparats”
  • Carme’s neighborhood

This Falla-Community has an extensive history proved by several documents that date back to the year 1.869, even though it wasn’t until the year 1.911 when it was baptized as “Falla Plaça Doctor Collado”. This Square had many different denominations and the “Falla” sculpture belonging to that Square used to be placed in a different street of the neighbourhood each year. Another proof of its antiquity is that it has the number 3 in the Official Registry Office of the “Junta Central Fallera”.

Until then, only people over 14 years old could belong to the Falla-Community and it was in 1.972 when the Valencian “fallero” Agustin Marco, called “Tino”, promoted the creation of a children’s Community that from that moment on has demonstrated to be in good health and still impresses anyone that sees them parading.

From the beginning we have had a commitment with the quality of the “Falla” sculpture that was planted in our Falla-Community, assigning at all times the highest quantity of money in order to try to guarantee the best monument within our means. Sometimes we have succeeded and we have won 1st Prize, even in the Maximum category, as happened with our fondly remembered “Fallas” sculptures awarded with the 1st Prize of the Special Category:

  • 1917: theme “Your Majesty, the peseta Artist: Amadeo Desfilis
  • 1921
  • 1951: there “The mirror of the truth” Artist: Fontilles’ brothers
  • 1953: theme “The Compass rose” Artist: Fontilles’ brothers
  • 1960: theme “The fame” Artist: Salvador Debón
  • 1969: theme “The spring” Artist: Salvador Debón

But it is not just this list of prizes the reason that our monuments go down in history. In 1.912, under the theme “La Margot” by the artist Pedro Guillem and in 1.961 under the theme “Sí, sí, pero vaca” from the artist Salvador Debón, the content and criticism of both monuments move ahead at that time and provoked a great expectancy.

Throughout history, something that has characterized us is that the “Falla de la Plaça Doctor Collado” has been the scene where all Valencian big artists have wanted to show their sculptures and monuments. We are proud that we have counted on great masters of each time, like Pedro Guillem, Amadeo Desfilis, Salvador Debón, Regino Mas, the Fontelles’ brothers and lately Pere Baenas.

For all these reasons we can say that we have been ahead of the rest of Falla-Communities since we were pioneers on criticizing the Valencian society within the monuments that were part of the “Falla” sculpture named “Le Margot”; furthermore, also because we had some great personalities as “Falleros of honour” and lately because as Valencian “Falleros” of the “Plaça del Doctor Collado” we have realized that we need to contribute somehow if we want to keep our customs and our culture live; that is the reason why we have developed projects like “l’Embolic”, “La Creu de Maig”, Salvador Debon’s prize to the best novel artist and lots of new things that will come the upcoming years.

If all this wasn’t enough, we have a new challenge for the 21st century: be supportive; that is why we have created the “Solidarity games”. We have been so committed within this supportive project that we have been able to allocate an amount over 0.7% of the total budget of the Falla-Community (an annual average of 4,2%)

The most important of all is that this Community’s history continues to be written every day with the objective of not just becoming one more but making the difference.
